Transitions: New President at Endicott College, California State U. at Northridge Names Provost

Marie Bernardo-Sousa, senior vice president for administration and enrollment management at Johnson & Wales University, has been named president of the university’s Providence, R.I., campus. She will suceed Mim L. Runey, who became chancellor of the university in October.

Appointments

Marie Bernardo-Sousa, senior vice president for administration and enrollment management at Johnson & Wales University, has been named president of the university’s Providence, R.I., campus. She will suceed Mim L. Runey, who became chancellor of the university in October.

Steven R. DiSalvo, president of Saint Anselm College, will become president of Endicott College on July 1. He will replace Kathleen Barnes, who has served as interim president since Richard E. Wylie’s death in May 2018.

Gaddius Faulcon, vice president for enrollment management at Saint Augustine’s University, in North Carolina, has been named interim president.

Michael Groener, interim president of Holy Names University, has been named to the post permanently. He replaced Jeanie Watson as interim president in November 2017.

Patricia L. Rogers, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Winona State University, will become president of Lake Superior College on July 1. She will succeed Patrick Johns, who plans to retire.

Kevin O’Brien, dean of the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University, will become president on July 1. He will succeed Michael Engh, who plans to step down.

Resignations

Hank M. Bounds, president of the University of Nebraska system since 2015, plans to step down this summer.

Laurie Nichols, president of the University of Wyoming since 2016, plans to step down and return to the faculty on June 30.

Appointments

Sonia Cardenas, vice president for strategic initiatives and innovation as well as dean of academic affairs at Trinity College, in Connecticut, will become interim dean of the faculty and vice president for academic affairs this summer.

Tom Middendorf, associate provost and dean of academic and student affairs at Trevecca Nazarene University, will become provost and senior vice president on July 1.

Diana Rogers-Adkinson, dean of the College of Education, Health and Human Studies at Southeast Missouri State University, has been named provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.

Mary Beth Walker, interim president of Georgia Gwinnett College and associate provost for strategic initiatives and innovation at Georgia State University, will become provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University at Northridge on July 1.

Tayo Clyburn, executive director of strategic partnerships and mission in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Ohio State University, will become vice president for diversity and inclusion and chief diversity officer at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in July.

Georgina Dodge, chief diversity officer and associate provost for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Bucknell University, will become the first vice president for diversity and inclusion at the University of Maryland at College Park in June.

Stephen J. Grourke, executive director for the Office of Estate and Gift Planning at Villanova University, has been named senior vice present for advancement and alumni relations at the American College of Financial Services.

Umang Jain, chief information officer for Hill Physicians Medical Group, has been named chief technology officer for Bridgepoint Education.

Benjamin Mohler, assistant vice president for development at Eastern Kentucky University, has been named vice president for resource development at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.

Daniel T. Powell, dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at Laramie County Community College, has been named vice president for academic success at Northwest Vista College.

Jeff Scaccia, vice president for finance and administration at the University of the Ozarks, has been named vice president for finance and administration at Presbyterian College.

James E. Trusdell, vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer at Holy Family University, has been named vice president for finance and administration at Georgian Court University.

Sarah Barnes-Witherspoon, a professor of nursing and director of graduate programs at the University of Mobile, has been named interim dean for the School of Nursing in the College of Health Professions.

Ross N. Dickens, dean and professor of finance in the College of Business and Global Affairs at the University of Tennessee at Martin, will become dean of the College of Business at Auburn University at Montgomery on July 1.

Malik S. Henfield, associate dean of academic affairs, research, and faculty advancement at the University of San Francisco, will become dean of the School of Education at Loyola University Chicago on July 1.

Karlene A. Hoo, dean of the graduate school and a professor of chemical engineering at Montana State University at Bozeman, will become dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at Gonzaga University on June 17.

George A. Godlewski, vice president for quality and safety at Geisinger Health System, will become director of the Healthcare Analytics graduate program at Misericordia University in the fall.

Paul Hanstedt, a professor of English at Roanoke College, will become the founding director of the Center for Academic Resources and Pedagogical Excellence at Washington and Lee University on July 1.

Jill Johnson, an instructor of business technology, business communication, and political science at Trident University International, has been named associate dean at the Glenn R. Jones College of Business.

Corey Seapy, a doctoral candidate and graduate teaching assistant in musical arts at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, will become director of bands for the Millikin University School of Music in August.

Patrick Wilson, associate vice president for digital and distance education at Tennessee Technological University and associate vice chancellor of the TN eCampus, has been named director of online and extended learning at New Mexico Highlands University.

Jay Winkeler, vice president for enforcement and public-safety solutions at the scientific-research company Leidos, has been named executive director of the Center for Business Intelligence and Analytics in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech.

Pearl K. Dowe, chair of the department of political science and an affiliated faculty member in the African and African-American studies program at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, will become a professor of political science and African-American studies at Emory University.

Richard Freund, director of the Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies and a professor of Jewish history at the University of Hartford, has been named a professor of Jewish studies at Christopher Newport University.

Shannon Jones Hostetter, an associate professor of clinical pathology and director of their Veterinary Clinical Pathology Laboratory at Iowa State University, has been named a faculty member in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia.

Erica Peel, piccoloist in the Philadelphia Orchestra, has been named a faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in the fall.

Deaths

Birch Bayh, former U.S. senator for Indiana and author of Title IX of the Higher Education Act, which prohibits sex discrimination in federally assisted education and athletics programs, died on March 14. He was 91.

Walter Garrison, founder of the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology, died on February 24. He was 92.

William D. Killian, founding president of Blue Ridge Community College, died on March 17. He was 96. Killian served as president from 1969 to 1987.

Robert McKinnon, former vice president for finance and administration at Reinhardt University, died on February 17. He worked at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Mercer University, Clark Atlanta University, Newberry College, and McKendree University.

Robert Mitchell Perkins Jr., former chair of the communication-arts department at the Community College of Baltimore County, died on February 28. He was 72.
