Lorraine Branham,dean of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University since 2008, died of cancer on April 2. She was 66. Before joining the university, where she helped create the student-run news site the NewsHouse, Branham was director of the School of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin and worked as a journalist at The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and The Baltimore Sun.
Richard D. Elton,a former vice president at Glendale Community College, died in late March. He was 101.

Richard Janeway, former dean of what is now the Wake Forest School of Medicine at Wake Forest University, died on March 17. He was 86. Janeway was dean of what was then called the Bowman Gray School of Medicine from 1971 to 1994, and oversaw the school’s expansion during that time.
Robert Mitchell Perkins Jr., former chair of the communication-arts department at the Community College of Baltimore County, died on February 28. He was 72.
Stephen Rolfe Powell,acclaimed glass artist and a professor of art at Centre College, died on March 16. He was 67. Powell arrived at the college in 1983, and was named the Kentucky Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education in 1999 and 2000. His artwork has been exhibited in many collections around the world, including Venice’s glass exhibition, Venezia Aperto Vetro.
