Jeremy Haefner, provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of Denver, will become chancellor on July 15. He will succeed Rebecca Chopp, who plans to step down.
Josee Larochelle,vice president for administration and finance at State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, will become officer-in-charge at the college on July 1. She will be the chief administrator following the retirement of John Ettling as president.

Michael Appleman,a professor emeritus of biological sciences at the University of Southern California, died on April 10. He was 85.
Paul M. Gaston,a professor emeritus of history and a civil-rights activist at the University of Virginia, died on June 14. He was 91. Gaston worked at the university from 1957 until 1997. He served as faculty adviser to a student group, the Human Relations Council, and helped bring Martin Luther King Jr. to speak at the university in 1963.
Raymond Miles,a professor emeritus and a former dean of the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley, died on May 13. He was 86. Miles arrived at the university in 1963 as a professor of organizational behavior and industrial relations and served as dean of the business school from 1983 to 1990.
