William Aiken,former interim president at Cleveland Community College and the retired president of Sampson Community College, has been named interim president of Wake Technical Community College. He will step in for Stephen Scott, who plans to retire at the end of August.

Andrea Kalyn,dean of the Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College, will become president of the New England Conservatory on January 1. She will be the first woman in that role.
Michael P. Mihalyo Jr.,provost and vice president for academic affairs at Rockford University, will become president of Wheeling Jesuit University on August 15.
Mim L. Runey,president of Johnson & Wales University’s campus in Providence, R.I., and chief operating officer for the university system since 2011, will become chancellor of the four-campus university system on October 1.
Jeffrey D. Senese,acting president of Saint Leo University since April 30, has been appointed to the post permanently. He joined Saint Leo in January as the university’s first provost and senior vice president for academic and student affairs and moved into the acting role when William J. Lennox Jr. retired.

Eric A. Turner,president of Black River Technical College, will become president of Southwest Baptist University on August 6. He will succeed C. Pat Taylor, who plans to retire after 22 years at the helm.
Resignations
Debasish Dutta,chancellor of Rutgers University at New Brunswick since July 2017, stepped down on July 24. He will take a year’s sabbatical and return to a faculty position in the School of Engineering. Christopher J. Molloy, senior vice president for research and economic development, has been named interim chancellor.
Steve Tyrell,president of North Country Community College since 2012, plans to step down in June 2019.

Deaths
Joseph M. Holthaus,dean of the School of Medicine at Creighton University from 1970 to 1980, died on July 22. He was 94. After his tenure as dean, he returned to his position on the faculty of the school until his retirement in 2002.
Clemmie Dixon (C.D.) Spangler Jr.,president of the University of North Carolina system from 1986 to 1997, died on July 22. He was 86. Prior to his appointment as president, Spangler was president of C.D. Spangler Construction Co. and chairman of the Bank of North Carolina. As system president, he fought against raising tuition and advocated for the system’s smaller and historically black colleges.
Phail Wynn Jr.,president Durham Technical Community College from 1980 to 2007, died on July 24. He was 70. Wynn was the first African-American president of the college. Following that role, he served as the first vice president for Durham and regional affairs at Duke University until he retired in May.
