Susan C. Aldridge, interim president of Thomas Jefferson University, has been named to the post permanently.

Alex Bryan, former president of Kettering College, in Ohio, and senior pastor at Walla Walla University, has been named president of Walla Walla University.

Elizabeth S. Chilton, provost, executive vice president, and chancellor of the Pullman campus of Washington State University, has been named president of the University of New Hampshire.

James Crawford III, trustee at Belmont Abbey College, in North Carolina, has been named president of Texas Southern University.

Anthony Cruz, president of the Kendall Campus at Miami Dade College, has been named president of Milwaukee Area Technical College.

Kristine E. Dillon has been named president of Whittier College, in California, after serving as interim president since July 2023.

Michael Godard, provost at Southeast Missouri State University, has been named president of Indiana State University.

Jeffrey P. Gold, executive vice president and provost at the University of Nebraska system and chancellor of its medical center, has been named president of the university.

Karim Ismaili, executive vice president and provost at Bridgewater State University, in Massachusetts, has been named president of Eastern Connecticut State University.

Gary Liguori, former provost and vice president of academic affairs at the University of West Florida, has been named chancellor of Pennsylvania State University at Abington.

Teresa MacCartney, chief operating officer at the University System of Georgia, has been named interim president of Georgia Southwestern State University.

Julie V. Philley, executive vice president for health affairs and vice provost at the University of Texas at Tyler, has been named president of the university.

Debbie Ricker, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Hood College, in Maryland, has been named interim president.

Wade Rousse, executive vice president at McNeese State University, in Louisiana, has been promoted to president of the university.

Devin Stephenson, president of Northwest Florida State College, will become president of Florida Polytechnic University on July 7.

Susan D. Stuebner, president at Colby-Sawyer College, in New Hampshire, has been named president of Marietta College, in Ohio.

Retirements
Grant Cornwell, president of Rollins College, in Florida, will retire in June 2025.

Robert R. Lindgren, president of Randolph-Macon College since 2006, plans to retire at the end of the 2024-25 academic year.

Thayne M. McCulloh, president of Gonzaga University for the past 15 years, will retire in July 2025.

Martha E. Pollack, president of Cornell University since 2017, will retire at the end of June.

Beverly Walker-Griffea, president of Mott Community College, in Michigan, since 2014, will retire in May.

Jenifer K. Ward, president of Luther College, in Iowa, will retire in June 2025.

Donald J. Leo, dean of the University of Georgia’s College of Engineering, has been named executive vice president and provost at Ohio University.

Valerie Martin Conley, who previously served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Idaho State University, has been named vice president and chief academic officer at St. Norbert College, in Wisconsin.

Jean McGivney-Burelle, dean of the College of Education at Idaho State University, has been named provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Saint Joseph’s University, in Pennsylvania.

Marie T. Mora, deputy provost at Metropolitan State University of Denver, has been named provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Purdue University Northwest, in Indiana.

Martha Umphrey, a professor of American government in the department of law, jurisprudence, and social thought at Amherst College, has been named provost and dean of the faculty.

John Sideras, executive vice president and chief financial officer at Case Western Reserve University, plans to retire in January 2025 after 17 years at the university.

David Blackwell, associate dean of professional graduate programs in the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky, has been named dean of the Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida.

Vicki Colvin, a professor of chemistry and engineering and director of biomedical engineering at Brown University, has been named dean of the College of Engineering at Louisiana State University.

Peter DeMarzo, a professor of finance and former senior associate dean in the Stanford Graduate School of Business, has been named interim dean of the school to replace Jonathan Levin, who has been named president of Stanford University.

John Duggan, interim dean of the Leo J. Meehan School of Business at Stonehill College, in Massachusetts, has been named to the post permanently.

Sandro Galea, dean of Boston University’s School of Public Health, has been named dean of the School of Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis.

Marnel Niles Goins, a professor of communication and dean of the College of Sciences and Humanities at Marymount University, in Virginia, has been named dean of the School of Communication at American University, in Washington, D.C.

David Goodman, associate dean of strategic initiatives and external relations in the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College, has been named dean of the Woods College of Advancing Studies.

Lawrence Whitman, dean of the Donaghey College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, has been named dean of the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology at Kennesaw State University, in Georgia.

Resignations

DEATHS
Christopher Edley Jr., a former professor at Harvard Law School and co-founder, with Gary Orfield, of the Harvard Civil Rights Project, died this month. He was 71.

Ivory Lyles, who served as director of the Cooperative Extension Service for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture from 2000 to 2009, died on April 19. He was 65.

David Shapiro, a poet who taught art history at William Paterson University and English and comparative literature at Columbia University, died on May 4. He was 77.

Jim Simons, former chair of the mathematics department at Stony Brook University who went on to found an investment company, died on May 10. He was 86.
