Dave Cillay, vice president for academic outreach and innovation at Washington State University, has been named the university’s first Global Campus chancellor. He will retain his current position as well.

Chief executives

Appointments

Dave Cillay, vice president for academic outreach and innovation at Washington State University, has been named the university’s first Global Campus chancellor. He will retain his current position as well.

Ginny Favede, executive director of the Ohio Valley Construction Employers Council and chair of the Board of Trustees at Wheeling University, has been named the university’s president. She succeeds Michael Mihalyo, who was placed on administrative leave in August.

Adam C. Hutchison, provost of the Waco campus at Texas State Technical College, will become president of Virginia Highlands Community College in January. He will replace Charlie White, who has served as interim president since Gene Couch who retired in October 2018.

Anne M. Kress, president of Monroe Community College, in New York, will become president of Northern Virginia Community College in January. She will replace Melvyn D. Schiavelli, who has served as interim president since March.

Dwight A. McBride, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Emory University, will become president of New School next spring. He will succeed David E. Van Zandt, who plans to step down after having led New School since 2011.

Martha Ann Todd, interim president of Columbus Technical College, in Georgia, since July, has been named to the post permanently.

Daria J. Willis, former provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Onondaga Community College, became president of Everett Community College in July. She is the college’s first African American chief executive.

Retirements

William Ingram, president of Durham Technical Community College since 2008, plans to retire on June 30.

M. Brian Blake, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Drexel University, has been named provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at George Washington University.

Kim Pearce, associate vice president for academic quality and effectiveness at Capella University, has been named vice president for academic affairs at Northwestern Health Sciences University.

Dave Ramsaran, interim provost and dean of faculty at Susquehanna University, has been named to the post permanently.

Costas Spirou, senior associate provost for academic affairs and director of the Graduate School at Georgia College and State University, has been named the university’s provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Deanna L. Yameen, vice provost for academic and student affairs at Massasoit Community College, has been named provost for academic and student affairs.

Retirements

Thomas G. Greene, provost at the University of Portland, plans to retire on June 30.

Ronald Sentwali Bakari, vice chancellor for student success at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, has been appointed vice president for student affairs and dean of students at Adelphi University.

Norman J. Beauchamp Jr., dean of the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University, has been named to the newly created position of executive vice president for health sciences. He will oversee the colleges of Human Medicine, Nursing, and Osteopathic Medicine, as well as clinical practices.

Paul Dworkis, associate vice president for finance and chief financial officer at the University of Maryland at College Park, will become vice president for administration and finance at Emerson College on December 2.

Nikki Fennern, vice president for enrollment management at Iowa Wesleyan University, has been named vice president for enrollment and marketing at Judson University, in Illinois.

Bryan Gleckler, who was vice president for business services at Lake Land College, became vice president for administrative services at Lincoln Land Community College on October 1.

Robert Goldberg, chief operating officer of Barnard College and a former U.S. State Department official, will become vice president, chief operating officer, and treasurer of Pomona College on January 1.

Mark C. Hampton, executive vice president for strategy and operations at Washington College, has been named executive vice president for administration and finance and chief business officer at Brooklyn Law School.

Andrew B. Jones, associate provost and dean of student success at Illinois College, has been named vice president for campus life and dean of students at Franklin College of Indiana.

Terry Mularkey, chief of staff and former executive director for development and community relations at Nova Southeastern University, will become vice president for university advancement at Marymount University on October 31.

The Rev. James K. Voiss, rector of the Jesuit community at Gonzaga University, will become vice president for mission and ministry at Marquette University on January 2.

Retirements

Almeda Jacks, vice president for student affairs at Clemson University, plans to retire on October 31.

Ron Liss, vice president for instruction and student development at Yavapai College, will retire in January.

Gary Addington, athletic director at Otero Junior College, has been appointed dean of student affairs.

Karen M. Estlund, associate dean for technology and digital strategies for Pennsylvania State University Libraries, will become dean of libraries at Colorado State University on December 1.

Faith Garrett, an assistant professor of nursing and program coordinator for the bachelor’s of science in nursing at the University of West Florida, has been named dean of health sciences at Midway University.

Jennifer S. Holmes, interim dean of the School of Economic, Political, and Policy Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas, has been named to the post permanently.

Hilton Kelly, immediate past president of the American Educational Studies Association, has been named dean of liberal arts and humanities at Livingstone College.

Shannon Mathews, an associate professor and chair of gerontology and interim associate dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education at Winston-Salem State University, has been named dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at Savannah State University.

Dawn Brown McNair, an associate professor of mathematics and math coordinator at Johnson C. Smith University, was named dean of mathematics and sciences at Livingstone College.

Sudesh Mujumdar, a professor of economics and chair of the department of economics and marketing in the Romain College of Business at the University of Southern Indiana, has been named dean of the College of Business Administration at Savannah State University.

Mohamad Mustafa, interim dean of the College of Sciences and Technology at Savannah State University, has been named to the post permanently.

Heather Ogden, director of ethics and compliance in the Title IX office of Southern Utah University, has been named the university’s dean of students.

John Woznicki, dean of the Heavin School of Arts and Sciences at Thomas Edison State University, will become dean of graduate studies at Delaware Valley University on November 4.

Resignations

Greg Budzban, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, plans to step down on July 31, 2020.

Davison M. Douglas, dean of the Law School at the College of William & Mary, plans to step down and return to the faculty in July 2020.

Diane Gayeski, dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, plans to step down and return to the faculty after a sabbatical.

Eleanor M. Green, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University at College Station, will leave the university to be a senior adviser and consultant with the policy and lobbying firm Animal Policy Group.

William J. O’Neill Jr., dean of the Business School at Suffolk University, plans to step down at the end of this academic year.

Maureen De Armond, assistant vice president for human resources at the University of Florida, has been named associate vice president for human resources at the Oregon Institute of Technology.

Curtis Dean, an assistant professor of the Bishop George E. Battle Jr. School of Business, Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology at Livingstone College, has been named director of the Evening Weekend College and of ROTC.

Juliana Ochs Dweck, curator of academic engagement at the Princeton University Art Museum, has been named chief curator of the museum.

John Goudreau, associate professor in the departments of neurology and ophthalmology, and pharmacology and toxicology at Michigan State University, and associate dean for research in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, is the new director of the university’s Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute.

Redgina L. Hill, former director of diversity and inclusion at Bethel University, in Indiana, will become executive director of inclusion and equity at Saint Mary’s College, in Indiana, on October 28.

Larry Jackson, assistant provost of university curriculum at New School, has been named associate dean of academic affairs, core curriculum, and undergraduate programs at Columbia University.

Jennifer Leonard, associate dean of professional engagement and director of the Center for Professionalism at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, has been named chief innovation officer and executive director of the Future of the Profession Initiative.

Tim Longo, a former chief of police for the City of Charlottesville, has been named interim chief of university police at the University of Virginia.

Kimberly Nerud, academic director of the R.N.-B.S.N. program at the University of South Dakota, has been appointed director of nursing education at Post University.

Jason Steuber, curator of Asian art in the Samuel P. Harn Museum at the University of Florida, has been named director of the Appleton Museum of Art at the College of Central Florida.

Melissa Stone, former executive director of enrollment operations and student financial services at the University of Delaware, is the new vice provost for enrollment management at the University of Michigan at Dearborn.

Resignations

Susan Robinson Fruchtl, director of athletics at Saint Francis University, in Pennsylvania, says she plans to resign from her position in March 2020.

Scott Lindroth, vice provost for the arts at Duke University since 2007, will step down from that role in June to return full time to teaching in the department of music.

Victoria Nolan, deputy dean of the School of Drama, managing director of Yale Repertory Theatre, and a professor in the practice of theater management at Yale University, plans to leave her posts at Yale on June 30, 2020.

Fellowships

The Council on Library and Information Resources has named its 2019 postdoctoral fellows. The 16 fellows will hold two-year appointments at their host institutions.

Bayeck, a recent doctoral recipient in learning design and technology and comparative international education from Pennsylvania State University at University Park, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in data curation in African American and African studies at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at New York Public Library.

Andrew Brown, a recent doctoral recipient in English from Yale University, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in digital humanities in the Jackman Humanities Institute at the University of Toronto.

Maia Call, a recent doctoral recipient in geography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in data curation for the sciences and social sciences at the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Guillaume Candela, a recent doctoral recipient in Hispanic and Latin American studies from the University of Paris-Sorbonne-Nouvelle, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in data curation for Latin American and Caribbean studies at the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University.

Christian Casey, a recent doctoral recipient in Egyptology from Brown University, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in the humanities and digital scholarship at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World at New York University.

Alicia Cowart, a recent doctoral recipient in geography from the University of California at Berkeley, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in geospatial data services in the university libraries at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Faithe Day, a recent doctoral recipient in communication studies from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in data curation for African American studies at Purdue University at West Lafayette.

Zachary Furste, a recent doctoral recipient in film and visual studies from Harvard University, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in software curation for the sciences and social sciences at Carnegie Mellon University.

Amani Morrison, a recent doctoral recipient in African American and African diaspora studies at the University of California at Berkeley, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in African American data curation at the University of Delaware.

Aditya Ranganath, a recent doctoral recipient in political science from the University of California at San Diego, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in geospatial data curation and preservation at New York University.

Brian A. Robinson, a recent doctoral recipient in American history from the University of South Carolina at Columbia, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in data curation for African American and African studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Azure Stewart, a recent doctoral recipient in education with a specialization in teaching and learning from the University of California at Santa Barbara, has been named a postdoctoral fellow at New York University.

Sean Tennant, a recent doctoral recipient in art and architectural history with a concentration in ancient Mediterranean art and archaeology from the University of Virginia, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in data curation for the sciences and social sciences at Union College.

Kimber Thomas, a recent doctoral recipient in American studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in data curation for African American studies in the university libraries at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Mary Borgo Ton, a recent doctoral recipient in British literature with a certificate in digital arts and humanities from Indiana University at Bloomington, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in data curation for Latin American and Caribbean studies at Indiana University at Bloomington.

Kevin Winstead, a recent doctoral recipient in American studies at the University of Maryland at College Park, has been named a postdoctoral fellow in African American data curation at the University of Delaware.

Nobel in Economic science

Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, both professors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Michael Kremer, a professor at Harvard University, shared the 2019 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel “for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.” The laureates were selected by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Deaths

Harold Bloom, a professor of English at Yale University and a literary critic who promoted a Western-centric canon, died on October 14. He was 89. Bloom, who joined Yale’s faculty more than 50 years ago, was teaching two humanities courses for undergraduates this semester and taught his last class on October 10. He wrote more than 40 books.

Edward John Bouwer, a professor of environmental engineering at the Johns Hopkins University with an expertise on drinking water and processes for treating wastewater, died of multiple myeloma on October 9. He was 63. He joined the faculty of Johns Hopkins in 1985 and at one time was chair of its department of geography and environmental engineering. His research topics included the effects of dry-cleaning solvents on water.
