Deaths
Jim Bartko,senior adviser to the executive director of the Alumni Association and former senior associate athletic director at the University of Oregon, died while undergoing surgery on March 16. He was 54. Bartko worked in athletics at Oregon from 1989 to 2014 before he left to become director of athletics at California State University at Fresno for two years. He returned to the University of Oregon to work with the alumni association.
Rosemary Santana Cooney,a former professor of sociology at Fordham University, died on February 22. She was 73. Cooney arrived at Fordham in 1974 as an assistant professor. She later became associate chair for undergraduate studies, associate chair for graduate studies, and then department chair. From 2000 until her retirement in 2016, she was associate dean of Fordham College at Rose Hill.
Margaret (Pegge) E. Howland,former director of the library at Greenfield Community College, died on March 9. She was 93. Howland was also a member and president of the Massachusetts Conference of Chief Librarians in Public Higher Education Institutions.
Marshall J. Leggett,chancellor and former president of Milligan College, died on March 2. He was 90. Leggett led the university from 1982 until 1997. After his retirement, he became chancellor.

William Mumby Jr.,a former assistant to the president at Coppin State University, died on March 5. He was 94. In 1967, he became admissions director at Bowie State College, now called Bowie State University. He later returned to Bowie State after working at Coppin State for over 30 years, this time as vice president for planning and development.
