William D. Nordhaus,a professor of economics and forestry and environmental studies at Yale University, and Paul M. Romer, a professor of economics at New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, received the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. Nordhaus received his half for “integrating climate change into long-run macroeconomic analysis” and Romer for “integrating technological innovations into long-run macroeconomic analysis.”

Deaths
Frank B. Murray,a professor emeritus of education and psychology at the University of Delaware who was dean of its College of Education from 1979 to 1995, died on September 14 after a sudden illness. He was 79. Murray was founding president of the Teacher Education Accreditation Council in Washington, D.C., and was chair of the Board of Directors of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.

Robert M. O’Neil,president of the University of Wisconsin system from 1980 to 1985 and president of the University of Virginia from 1985 to 1990, died on September 30. He was 83.
John J. Waters,a professor emeritus of history at the University of Rochester, died on September 14. He was 83. Waters taught at the university for his entire academic career from 1965 to his retirement in 1998. He was an expert in his fields of American colonial history, the American Revolution, and the Civil War and Reconstruction, and wrote The Otis Family in Provincial and Revolutionary Massachusetts (University of North Carolina Press, 1968).
