Theodore DeWeese has been named dean of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and chief executive of Johns Hopkins Medicine after serving in the role on an interim basis since 2022.
Roger Fairfax, dean of the Washington College of Law at American University, will step down at the end of the year to become dean of the Howard University School of Law.
Meredith Gronski, chair of the occupational therapy department and director of the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program at Methodist University, has been named dean of the university’s College of Health Sciences and Human Services.

Holly Rachel, president of the Nashville chapter of Blacks in Technology, became executive director of the Darrell S. Freeman Sr. Incubation and Innovation Center at Fisk University.
David Simpson, an associate teaching professor at Northeastern University, has been named associate dean of diversity and inclusion in the Eberly College of Science at Pennsylvania State University at University Park.
Rosemarie Wesson, associate provost for research at City College of the City University of New York, has been named associate vice chancellor and university vice provost for research at the City University of New York.
DEATHS Julius W. Becton Jr., former president of Prairie View A&M University, died on November 28. He was 97.
David Del Tredici, a composer who taught at the City College of New York from 1984 to 2015, died on November 18. He was 86. Del Tredici also taught at Boston, Harvard, and Yale Universities.
Guy Stern, a professor of German who served as vice president and provost for academic affairs at Wayne State University, died on December 7. He was 101. Stern taught at Denison University and the University of Maryland, among other colleges. At the time of his death, he was director of the International Institute of the Righteous at the Zekelman Holocaust Center.
Michael H. Stone, a former professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and author of The Anatomy of Evil (2009), died on December 6. He was 90.
H. Mebane (Meb) Turner, former president of the University of Baltimore, died on November 19. He was 92. Turner led the university from 1969 to 2002.
