V. Craig Jordan, a pharmacologist who discovered tamoxifen, a key breast-cancer drug, died on June 9. He was 76. Over the course of his career, he worked at the University of Wisconsin, Northwestern University, Georgetown University, and the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas, in Houston.
Jerald W. Strickland, a former provost and dean of the College of Optometry at the University of Houston, died at 87.

Yoshihiro Uchida, coach of the judo program at San Jose State University, died on June 27. He was 104. Uchida coached the United States team for the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, the first time judo appeared as a sport in the Olympic games.
