Transitions: Temple U. Names New President; Texas A&M U. System Chancellor to Retire

CHIEF EXECUTIVES
Appointments
Lori Barber, vice president for academic and student affairs at the College of Eastern Idaho, has been named president of the college.

Alanka Brown, president of Miami Dade College’s Padrón Campus, has been named president of the college’s Homestead Campus.

Joshua C. Brumberg has been named president of the City University of New York Graduate Center after serving as interim president since October 2023.

Christopher B. Davis, interim president of LeMoyne-Owen College since July 2023, has been named to the post permanently.

John A. Fry, president of Drexel University, has been named president of Temple University, in Philadelphia.

Charles J. Gibbs, chief executive of 100 Black Men of America Inc., has been named president of Metropolitan College of New York.

Ronald A. Johnson, interim president of Kentucky State University and former president of Clark Atlanta University, has been named interim president of Tennessee State University.

Tim Keane, dean of the Knauss School of Business at the University of San Diego, has been named president of Webster University, in Missouri.

Harrison Keller, commissioner and chief executive officer of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, has been named president of the University of North Texas.

Walter M. Kimbrough, former president of Dillard University, in Louisiana, has been named interim president of Talladega College, in Alabama.

Robert S. Prezant, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Southern Connecticut State University, has been named president of Farmingdale State College of the State University of New York.

Lisa Marsh Ryerson, provost at Southern New Hampshire University, has been named president of the university.

Lindsey Simon-Jones, an associate professor of English, has been named interim chancellor and chief academic officer of Pennsylvania State University-Fayette, The Eberly Campus.

Bryan Stewart, president of Miami Dade College’s Medical Campus, has been named president of the college’s Kendall Campus.

Resignations
Mark Hagerott, chancellor of the North Dakota University system, will step down at the end of December 2025 and join the faculty.

Mark Mone, chancellor of the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, plans to step down and return to the faculty in July 2025.

Roger Ramsammy, president of Hudson Valley Community College of the State University of New York, has been fired by the Board of Trustees “with cause.”

Retirements
Kristine D. Duffy, president of the State University of New York Adirondack, will retire in June 2025.

Allison Garrett, chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education, plans to retire in January 2025.

Robert C. Helmer, president of Baldwin Wallace University, in Ohio, has retired.

Jody Horner, president of Midland University, in Nebraska, plans to retire.

Tuajuanda C. Jordan, president of St. Mary’s College of Maryland since 2014, will retire in June 2025.

John Sharp, chancellor of Texas A&M University system since 2011, will retire in June 2025.

Jenifer Ward, president of Luther College, in Iowa, plans to retire in June 2025.

James Soto Antony, dean of graduate education and postdoctoral affairs at the University of California at San Diego, has been named provost and executive vice president at George Mason University.

David Cook, dean of global studies and preprofessional programs, professor of leadership studies, senior legal counsel to the president, and special assistant to the president for advancement at Dallas Baptist University, has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at Tusculum University.

Retirements
Maryanne Reed, provost and vice president for academic affairs at West Virginia University, will retire at the end of September. Paul Kreider, vice provost, will serve as interim provost.

Kim Taylor, vice president and general counsel at the University of Chicago, has been named vice president and general counsel at Duke University.

Frances Teves, interim vice president for university advancement at California State Polytechnic University at Pomona since March 2023, has been named to the post permanently.

Kimberly D. Williams, vice president for business affairs and chief financial officer at the University of Findlay, in Ohio, has been named vice president for administration and finance and chief financial officer at the Florida Institute of Technology.

Retirements
Gerry Rosberg, senior executive vice president at Columbia University since 2016, plans to retire.

Johanna Kalb, former dean of the University of Idaho College of Law, has been named dean of the University of San Francisco School of Law.

Jeff Lichtman, a professor of molecular and cellular biology at Harvard University, has been named dean of science.

Alma Littles has been named dean of the College of Medicine at Florida State University after serving as interim dean since February 2023.

Mary Frances Luce, a professor of business administration in the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, has been named interim dean of the school.

Christopher Span, a professor of education policy, organization, and leadership at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been named dean of the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University.

Jeremy M. Weinstein, a professor of international studies at Stanford University and a senior fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, has been named dean of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Peter Whiting, interim vice president for student affairs at Case Western Reserve University, in Ohio, has been named interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Jeffrey Hallo, a professor in the department of parks, recreation, and tourism management at Clemson University, has been named associate dean of academic policy and program effectiveness in the university’s Graduate School.

Resignations
Roeshana Moore-Evans, executive director of the Legacy of Slavery program at Harvard University, stepped down on July 5.

DEATHS
Robert J. Bruce, president emeritus of Widener University, died on April 19. He was 86.

Elinor Fuchs, a professor emerita of dramaturgy and dramatic criticism at Yale University, died on May 28. She was 91.

David Harnage, a former vice president for finance and administration at Old Dominion University, died May 28. He was 71.

V. Craig Jordan, a pharmacologist who discovered tamoxifen, a key breast-cancer drug, died on June 9. He was 76. Over the course of his career, he worked at the University of Wisconsin, Northwestern University, Georgetown University, and the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas, in Houston.

Jerald W. Strickland, a former provost and dean of the College of Optometry at the University of Houston, died at 87.

Yoshihiro Uchida, coach of the judo program at San Jose State University, died on June 27. He was 104. Uchida coached the United States team for the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, the first time judo appeared as a sport in the Olympic games.
