Appointments

Joy Fehr, provost at La Sierra University, will become president on July 1. She will succeed Randal Wisbey, who plans to retire.

Kim Hoffmans, vice president for academic affairs at Ventura College, has been named president. She replaces Damon Bell, who has served as interim president after Dave Keebler’s interim appointment following Greg Gillespie’s shift in July 2017 into the role of chancellor of the Ventura County Community College District.

Dannel Malloy, governor of Connecticut from 2010 to 2018, will become chancellor of the University of Maine system on July 1. He will succeed James Page, who plans to retire.

Donde Plowman, executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, will become chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville on July 1. She will replace Wayne T. Davis, who has served as interim chancellor since Beverly Davenport’s dismissal in July 2018.

John R. Porter, vice president of services at IBM partner Gulf Business Machines, in Dubai, will become president of Lindenwood University on July 1.

Monica Torres, interim president of New Mexico State University Doña Ana Community College since September 2018, has been named to the post permanently.

Laura Vosejpka, founding dean of the College of Sciences and Liberal Arts at Kettering University, has been named dean and chief executive of University of Montana Helena College of Technology.

Philip Way, provost and vice president for academic and student affairs and former interim president at Slippery Rock University, will become president of Athens State University on August 1. He will replace Ronald Ingle, who has served as interim president since Robert Glenn left to become president of the University of Houston-Victoria.

Julie A. White, senior vice president for student engagement and learning support at Onondaga Community College, will become president of Pierce College-Fort Steilacoom on July 15. She will replace Deidre Soileau, who has served as interim president since Denise Yochum’s retirement.

Quentin Wright, special assistant to the chancellor at Lone Star College, has been named founding president of a new campus, Lone Star College-Houston North.

Retirements

James M. Dennis, president of McKendree University since 1994, plans to retire on June 30, 2020.

Eric R. Jensen, president of Illinois Wesleyan University since 2015, announced his retirement on May 31.

Laura L. Behling, a professor of English and former provost and dean of the college at Knox College, will become provost at the University of Puget Sound on July 15.

Travis Frampton, vice president for university mission and strategic vision at Hardin-Simmons University, will become provost and vice president for academic affairs at Schreiner University on July 1.

Chance Glenn Sr., dean of the College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Sciences at Alabama A&M University, will become provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Houston-Victoria on August 5.

Jason Osborne, associate provost and dean of the Graduate School at Clemson University, will become provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Miami University, in Ohio, on August 1.

Mary Ann Rafoth, interim provost at Robert Morris University, in Pennsylvania, has been named provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.

Constanza Cabello, assistant to the president for institutional diversity and director of intercultural affairs at Stonehill College, will become vice president for diversity, inclusion and community engagement at Framingham State University on July 15.

Mary Glenn, senior director of development for health sciences at the University at Buffalo, will become vice president for institutional advancement at Daemen College on June 24.

Katherine (Kitty) Green, president and chief executive of Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties, in Florida, will become vice president for advancement and executive director of the foundation at Florida Gulf Coast University on June 24.

Thomas Witherspoon, associate dean of students and director of multicultural student support services at Denison University, has been named vice president for diversity and inclusion at Whitman College.

Catherine (Cathy) Carey, interim dean of the Gordon Ford College of Business at Western Kentucky University, has been named dean of the Romain College of Business at the University of Southern Indiana.

Ken Colwell, dean of the School of Business at Central Connecticut State University, will become dean of the School of Business Administration at the University of Houston-Victoria on July 15.

Walter Fitzgerald Jr., former dean of the South College School of Pharmacy, has been named dean of the College of Pharmacy at Idaho State University.

Angela Kashuba, professor and chair of the division of pharmacotherapy and experimental therapeutics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will become dean of the Eshelman School of Pharmacy on October 1.

John Lach, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Virginia, will become dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at George Washington University on August 15.

Siân Mooney, associate dean of interdisciplinary programs and initiatives in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University, has been named dean of the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University at Bloomington.

Amy Radford-Popp, director of the residential business community at the Broad College of Business at Michigan State University, has been named dean of student engagement at Olivet College.

Ted Ritter, an assistant professor of political science and chair of the department of history and political science, will become dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Virginia Union University in July.

Stan Sclaroff, interim dean of the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Boston University, has been named to the post permanently.

Reese Ramos, former corporate ombudsman at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, Calif., will become director of the University Ombuds Office at Virginia Tech on July 1.

Jeffrey H. Reed, a professor of electrical and computer engineering and founding director of Wireless@VT at Virginia Tech, has been named interim executive director of the university’s Commonwealth Cyber Initiative.

H. Alexander Rich, assistant professor of art history and curator and director of galleries and exhibitions for the Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College, has been named executive director and chief curator for the museum.

Resignations

Peter C. Lim, deputy sexual-violence investigative officer at the University of Pennsylvania, will leave to become an investigative lawyer with the Institutional Response Group at Cozen O’Connor, at the law firm’s Philadelphia office.

Simin Meydani, vice provost for research at Tufts University, plans to step down in August. She will return to the faculty of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and her lab at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging after a sabbatical.

Michael J. Zinner, chief executive and executive medical director of the Miami Cancer Institute, has been named professor and chair of the department of surgery in the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University.

Resignations

Hikmet Budak, a professor who held the first endowed chair in plant sciences in the College of Agriculture at Montana State University, has stepped down after an investigation by the university’s Office of Institutional Equity. The investigation found that he had sexually harassed and discriminated against students, creating a hostile environment.

Amy Hillman, dean of the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, has been named vice president-elect and program chair-elect of the Academy of Management, an association for management and organization scholars.

Lori Williams, vice president at the WASC Senior College and University Commission, will become president and chief executive of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements on August 1.

Deaths

Robert Wayne Bowles, the first director of alumni affairs at Alcorn State University, died on May 17.

William B. DeLauder, former president of the Delaware State University, died on May 21. He was 81. DeLauder was president from 1987 until 2003, during which time the enrollment grew from 2,389 students to a then-record 3,367 and the institution’s name was changed from Delaware State College in 1993.

Kristi Larkin Havens, a lecturer in the department of English at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, died on April 29. She was 55. Havens also served as assistant director of undergraduate studies for the department.

Martin Kilson, professor emeritus of government at Harvard University, died on April 24. He was 88. In 1969, he became the first African-American to be named a full professor at Harvard College.

Georgia Lesh-Laurie, former chancellor of the University of Colorado at Denver from 1995 to 2003, died on May 9. She was 80. Lesh-Laurie served as chair of the biology department, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Graduate Studies, and interim provost at Cleveland State University before leaving to become chancellor at Denver.
