The headline in the student newspaper at the University of Connecticut this month didn’t pull any punches. It read: “UConn hub of prostitution ring.”
That sparked plenty of discussion in the state, and even spurred an investigation by campus police and administrators. Quoting unnamed sources, the newspaper charged that a group of exotic dancers called the “Get Wet Girls” had performed at as many as four parties on campus, and offered sexual favors to students who paid.
The newspaper looked into the story after a Storrs, Conn., man who apparently managed the group was arrested in Rhode Island and charged with promoting prostitution. The dancers had run a classified advertisement in the paper.
