Notes

Data are available only when at least 65 percent of students are tracked, a given population is at least 50 students, and states have at least three qualifying institutions. Student counts are for terms starting between August 15, 2006, and October 31, 2006, except two-year public institutions in Kentucky, which are for terms starting between August 14, 2006, and October 31, 2006.

In Alaska, enrollments in two-year institutions were reported as a part of four-year public-institution enrollments.

Due to the need to establish students’ first-time status, only institutions that submitted enrollment data dating back to June 1, 2002, to the National Student Clearinghouse are included in the report. Historical coverage rates are calculated as IPEDS Enrollments of institutions included in the report divided by Total IPEDS Enrollment for that state and institution type.

Students who started at a multistate institution are excluded from this study. However, students who completed college at a multistate institution are included.
