Mitch Gerber, senior copy editor, joined The Chronicle of Higher Education in 1995.
Gerber grew up in Buffalo, where for several summers he worked at the Courier-Express. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in American history from Columbia University, he worked at several jobs in New York for a couple of years, then traveled for a year, including six months spent picking apples and harvesting fish as a volunteer on a kibbutz in Israel.
Returning to Buffalo, he went back to the Courier-Express, where he served as assistant editor of the Sunday magazine for seven years. Gerber then worked at newspapers and magazines in Orlando, Fla., Long Island, N.Y., and Washington before landing at The Chronicle.
