Open Thread Wednesday: Favorite Podcasts & Podcast Players?

Every so often, we like to check in and see what podcasts people like to listen to. These might be for work, for self-improvement, or just for fun. Whatever the motivation might be, it’s always interesting to find out what other people are listening to.

I almost always listen to podcasts at two times: driving to/from work or the 11yo’s soccer practice, or while doing the dishes. On balance, that means I *subscribe* to fewer podcasts that are directly about work-type topics and more that are fun. Here’s my list:

• Back to Work: Merlin Mann and Dan Benjamin discuss creativity, time, and attention.
• Mac Power Users: what it says on the tin.
• The Anfield Wrap: Liverpool Football Club-related. If you subscribe to the podcast, you also get a music-focused episode in midweek.
• Men in Blazers: Premier League coverage, and Philip Larkin poetry.
• Howler Radio: The podcast of Howler magazine. Soccer from all over.
• Just The Tip: Comedy podcast. Not actually dirty.
• The Flop House: Terrible movies, dissected lovingly by 3 guys who also write for The Daily Show.
• The Daily Show Podcast without Jon Stewart. Writers, producers, and correspondents discuss the machinations of The Daily Show.

I’m also always curious how people listen to podcasts. For me, I let my phone keep track of everything, and I use Overcast as the (iOS) app. But I know other people listen to podcasts in all sorts of different ways (and, obviously, also on other platforms), and I’d be curious to learn about that. So please share your preferred podcast player in comments, too!
