5 More Trustees Resign From Mount St. Mary’s of Maryland

Five more trustees resigned recently from the board of Mount St. Mary’s University, marking the latest leadership changes at the Roman Catholic institution in Maryland that has been mired in controversy this year.

The Frederick News-Post reports that the five departed board members were mainly current or retired financial executives. The one trustee whom the newspaper reached for comment declined to talk about the reasons for his resignation.

The departures followed the resignation last month of Simon P. Newman, a former private-equity chief executive, as the university’s president. Mr. Newman was swept out of office amid a national controversy that stemmed from a blunt “drown the bunnies” metaphor that he used in reference to at-risk students. The board’s chairman, John E. Coyne III, stepped down this month, seven months before the end of his term.
