Part-time professors at Hamline University voted to unionize on Friday, marking the latest victory in the Service Employees International Union’s push to organize adjuncts across the country, the Pioneer Press reports. According to the union, 72 percent of faculty members at the Minnesota university who cast votes during the past two weeks favored forming a union.
The unionization is the SEIU’s first victory in the Twin Cities. Tufts University and Northeastern University are among several institutions in metropolitan areas across the country whose adjuncts have voted to unionize through the SEIU.
