At Columbia U., Students Upset by Non-Indictments May Postpone Exams

Columbia University Law School has told its students they can postpone their examinations if they are upset by the recent grand-jury decisions in the cases of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, unarmed black men who were killed by white police officers, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The law school’s interim dean, Robert E. Scott, wrote in an email to the student body that “students who feel that their performance on examinations will be sufficiently impaired due to the effects of these recent events may petition” the school’s head of registration to reschedule their exams.

Protests have erupted in recent weeks nationwide after grand juries in both cases decided not to indict the respective police officers.
