A speech by Steven G. Salaita, scheduled for Tuesday night at Guilford College, has been moved from the Frank Family Science Center to another location after a member of the family requested the change, reports the News & Record, in Greensboro, N.C.
The college’s president, Jane Fernandes, said she had made the decision to move the event to a campus library “in cooperation with its faculty organizers.”
“If another suitable location had not been available, the lecture would have been held in Frank Family Science Center,” she said in a written statement.
A lawsuit filed by Mr. Salaita last week demanded that unnamed donors at the University of Illinois pay him damages for pressuring university leaders to revoke his appointment on the Urbana-Champaign campus. The Board of Trustees rejected Mr. Salaita’s appointment to a tenured professorship last year after a prolonged controversy over tweets he posted that criticized Israel.
