A University of Kentucky football player was charged on Tuesday with first-degree rape and has been indefinitely suspended from the team, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.
The player, Lloyd Tubman, a freshman defensive end, was charged in connection with a sexual-assault report filed by a female student last Thursday. He was being held in lieu of $10,000 bond on Tuesday night and had not made any public comment regarding the charge.
Mark Stoops, Kentucky’s head football coach, confirmed Mr. Tubman’s arrest and suspension from the team at a news conference on Tuesday. “Anytime somebody in our program has an issue like this, it’s obviously a major concern,” the coach told reporters. “We just feel for all parties involved, and we’ll let the legal process go through its course.”
