Licensed gun owners in Ohio may soon be able to carry concealed weapons on college campuses. Lawmakers approved a bill on Friday that would give public colleges and universities the option to be concealed-carry campuses, Reuters reports.
The bill now awaits the approval of John Kasich, Ohio’s Republican governor. If he signs it into law, concealed carry would still have to be approved by an institution’s Board of Trustees to take effect on a campus.
The bill was passed less than two weeks after a student wielding a knife drove into a crowd at Ohio State University and injured 11 people.
In the bill, lawmakers also removed concealed-carry bans in public areas of airports and day-care centers, but maintained the bans for government buildings like city halls and libraries.
