Cincinnati State Faculty Strike Over Workload Dispute

Nearly 200 faculty members at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College went on strike Friday after union officials and administrators failed to reach agreement on workload issues. The professors, who are being backed by the national office of the American Association of University Professors, say that they are being required to work 20 percent more than are their peers at other Ohio community colleges, according to Cincinnati.com, and that they fear the gap will widen when the college begins a semester system next fall. The college’s trustees say that they have offered to study the issue of parity with other colleges but that Cincinnati State’s faculty already get paid more than do their peers at other colleges. Classes had already been canceled today for the inauguration of Cincinnati State’s president, O’dell M. Owens.
