Daughter of Fla. Governor Who Criticized Anthropology Has a Degree in the Field

When Gov. Rick Scott of Florida singled out anthropology degrees as job-market losers in comments to a newspaper this week, he may have been speaking with inside knowledge, the Associated Press suggests. It turns out his daughter, Jordan Kandah, has a degree in anthropology from the College of William and Mary. Ms. Kandah did not go to work in that field, however, and is now pursuing an M.B.A., according to the AP.

A spokesman said the governor didn’t mean to criticize anthropologists, just to make the point that there is a high demand now for graduates with degrees in engineering, mathematics, science, and technology -- an emphasis Mr. Scott repeated on Wednesday as he outlined his economic plan for the next legislative session.
