Fired Rutgers Coach Broke Rules in Talking to Instructor About Grade Change, NCAA Says

The National Collegiate Athletic Association issued a notice of allegations against Rutgers University on Tuesday over a former football coach’s effort to get a player’s grade changed, among other things, The Star-Ledger reports.

The association made seven allegations involving the university, including a “failure to monitor” the football program, according to a letter the president, Robert L. Barchi, wrote to the campus on Tuesday.

Last year Rutgers suspended and later fired the coach, Kyle Flood, after an investigation found he had contacted an adjunct professor in an attempt to secure a better grade for one of his players.

“Despite my disappointment over these allegations, I believe we are a stronger university because of our immediate and transparent response to them,” Mr. Barchi said in his letter, “and you have my word that we will continue to strive for excellence with integrity.”
