A senior lecturer at Florida State University resigned last week after unleashing a string of profanities in response to a Facebook post praising the U.S. Department of Justice’s decision to investigate the shooting of a black 12-year-old in Cleveland, the Tallahassee Democrat reports.
“You are an intellectual fraud, just like your Messiah,” Deborah O’Connor, who taught in the university’s College of Business, wrote—among other things—to a man who posted about the shooting. “Obama has single-handedly turned our once great society into a Ghetto Culture, rivaling that of Europe.”
Ms. O’Connor told the newspaper that she was embarrassed by the comments, and that she had been encouraged to resign but not forced to. “I’ve learned my lesson about Facebook; let’s just leave it at that,” she told the newspaper.
Florida State has no rules governing faculty members’ use of social media.
