Former U. of Louisville Official Is Charged With Stealing $2.8-Million

A former executive director of the University of Louisville’s department of family and geriatric medicine has been accused of stealing $2.8-million in patient payments and other funds and failing to report some $2.4-million in income, according to The Courier-Journal.

A federal grand jury indicted the former Louisville official, Perry Chadwick Vaughn, on Wednesday. He had been accused of some of the offenses in a civil complaint filed last September, the same month he was fired by the university. Mr. Vaughn pleaded not guilty and was released on a $25,000 bond. The newspaper could not reach his lawyer for comment.

Gary Mans, a spokesman for the health sciences campus, said the school “has solid internal controls in place to guard against the misuse of university funds,” but that it’s “up to employees and their supervisors to follow those policies and procedures.”
