Jim Tressel, Ex-Coach at Ohio State, Is New President of Youngstown State U.

Youngstown State University’s Board of Trustees on Friday voted unanimously to offer James P. Tressel, a former head football coach at Ohio State University who is now a vice president at the University of Akron, the job of Youngstown State’s presidency.

Mr. Tressel was forced out as the Buckeyes’ coach in 2011 amid an NCAA investigation into allegations that players had received impermissible benefits. The NCAA punished the team and hit Mr. Tressel with a five-year “show cause” penalty.

He later returned to Akron, his alma mater, where he has served as executive vice president for student success. He was in the running for Akron’s presidency and had been named a finalist, but this week Akron instead chose the University of Toledo’s provost as its next leader.
