The Minerva Project, a for-profit higher-education venture that bills itself as a new kind of university offering an online alternative for high-performing students around the world, announced on Wednesday that it had entered into a partnership with the Keck Graduate Institute, a life-sciences institution that is part of the Claremont University Consortium.
The agreement gives Minerva a path to earning accreditation, which is one hurdle it has faced since introducing its plan for a new university last year.
The company has grabbed headlines by attracting a big venture-capital investment and winning the support of some prominent higher-education personalities.
The institute is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, one of the nation’s six regional accreditors. Its partnership with Minerva is pending the accreditor’s approval.
