New York Bill Would Require Every Campus to Have Its Own President

A New York state senator has introduced a bill that would overturn a State University of New York plan to save money by letting presidents oversee more than one campus, according to the Watertown Daily Times. The legislator, Patricia A. Ritchie, says that she supports the idea of consolidating administrative functions, but that she thinks “each one of the colleges needs a president to help fund-raise, to help with the college’s mission.” The bill is a response to a controversial SUNY arrangement under which several pairs of campuses would share presidents, including those at Canton and Potsdam, at Cobleskill and Delhi, and at Morrisville and Utica-Rome.
