Obama Outlines New Push to Improve Veterans’ College Experiences

President Obama on Saturday introduced a new effort that seeks to improve the college experience of student veterans by giving institutions a set of steps they can take to support veterans on campus.

Mr. Obama announced that framework, dubbed the “8 Keys to Success,” during his remarks at a convention for disabled veterans in Orlando. He said more than 250 institutions had signed on to participate.

The effort’s eight recommendations include suggestions that colleges work to ensure that veterans have the support of faculty members and campus leaders, and use uniform data to track veterans’ success. They also call on colleges to work with local communities to coordinate services for veterans.

In a news release, Student Veterans of America, a national advocacy group, praised Mr. Obama’s effort and outlined the role it had already played in putting the eight steps into action.
