Saint Paul’s College, a historically black institution in Lawrenceville, Va., will not open for traditional classes in the fall and will suspend most of its operations, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. In June, the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools declined to renew the financially strapped college’s accreditation after it had been on probation for two years. Though the college is appealing that decision, it has helped many of its students transfer to other institutions. Saint Paul’s is considering a merger with another college if its appeal fails.
