Santa Monica College President Asks to Put 2-Tier Pricing on Hold

Santa Monica College’s president, Chui L. Tsang, recommended Friday morning that the college’s trustees postpone a plan under which the overcrowded community college would add sections of popular courses but charge students significantly more than the usual per-unit fee. According to the Los Angeles Times, the president’s recommendation came at the beginning of an emergency board meeting called to reconsider the pricing plan after students protesting against it were pepper-sprayed by police on Tuesday. The chancellor of California’s community-college system, Jack Scott, said Thursday that he had asked the college to hold off on the plan.
