Scholars to Gather at Harvard for Occupy ‘Teach-In’

Professors from Harvard University, Boston College, and New York University will gather at the Harvard Science Center on Wednesday afternoon for a 4½-hour public “teach in” in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

First on the agenda is a lecture by Stephen Marglin, an economics professor at Harvard, challenging his colleague N. Gregory Mankiw’s free-market principles. Last month 70 Harvard students walked out of Mr. Mankiw’s introductory macroeconomics course to protest its “overly conservative bias.” (Mr. Mankiw served as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers during the second Bush administration and is now an adviser to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.)

Other teach-in participants will include NYU’s Andrew Ross, lecturing on the student debt-refusal campaign, Boston College’s Juliet Schor on “economics for the 99%,” and professors from Harvard’s Law School, Kennedy School of Government, and Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
