Texas Board Approves Controversial Curriculum Change at Alamo Colleges

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has approved a controversial change in the core curriculum of the Alamo Colleges that faculty members had lobbied against, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

Starting this fall, the five-institution community-college district will replace a requirement in the humanities with a course on leadership, which will in part draw on the strategies found in the self-help book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.

The proposal angered many faculty members, who have raised concerns about the course because they say it did not go through the faculty’s curriculum process. College leaders have said that the course will teach students strategies to help complete their degrees.
