U. of Oregon Censures Professor Who Attended Halloween Party in Blackface

A University of Oregon law professor is under investigation by the university after wearing blackface to an off-campus Halloween party last week, The Oregonian reports.

The university’s president, Michael H. Schill, released a written statement on Tuesday night condemning “the use of blackface, even in jest at a Halloween party,” as an offensive and “stupid” act. The unnamed faculty member has apologized, according to the statement, but the case is being turned over to the university’s Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity to determine whether university policy was violated.
