An Al-Quds University professor who led a group of Palestinian students on an unprecedented trip to the Auschwitz death camp has been expelled from a union at the university and is now threatening legal action against the group, the Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz reported.
The professor, Mohammed S. Dajani Daoudi, is an activist who has tried to encourage tolerance between Palestinians and Israelis. His efforts to teach students about the Holocaust have been controversial among some Palestinians.
The union said in a letter that the professor’s membership had been suspended for “behavior that contravenes the policies and norms” of the group.
But Mr. Dajani said he was never a member of the union and threatened to take legal action against it. He said the union’s move was “only aimed at slander, provocation, and personal and professional harm in an obvious violation of legal provisions.”
