Building Community in Online Classes

ChroniclePageClass_CommunityOnline.png

Students’ learning is enhanced when they connect with their instructors -- and their classmates. Creating this community looks different in an online classroom, but there is now good evidence on how to go about it.

Watch on demand The Chronicle’s Beckie Supiano, who helps write our weekly Teaching Newsletter, and a panel of experts from December 17, 2-3pm (ET), “Building Community in Online Classes.” During this forum, we’ll cover:

  • Tactics other colleges have tried
  • What worked well and what did not
  • Actionable strategies for building community in online courses

Whether you’re moving a course online for the first time, fine tuning your approach, or an administrator who wants to fuel this work, this session will have something for you.

With Support From Class.

Host: Beckie Supiano, senior writer, The Chronicle of Higher Education

Panelists:

  • Rebecca A. Glazier, professor, University of Arkansas at Little Rock
  • Norma Scagnoli, Vice Provost for Learning Innovations and Director Center for Learning Innovations, Illinois Institute of Technology
  • Drew Stephen, associate professor, University of Texas at San Antonio
