Leadership Interview Series: Christina H. Paxson, President, Brown University

In the face of unprecedented challenges, college leaders are not just looking to respond to them, but seeking to transform their institutions. In the latest installment of our monthly Leadership Series, the president of Brown University, Christina H. Paxson, joins The Chronicle’s Lindsay Ellis to discuss her experiences over the past year and her plans for the future, including such questions as:

  • What does it take for college leaders to survive and succeed in the current environment?
  • How should college presidents respond to the divisive politics of today?
  • How does she see shared governance changing?

During her tenure, Ms. Paxson, a noted economist, and public-health expert, has sought to maintain Brown’s reputation as a leading research university while expanding undergraduate opportunities and diversity and inclusion initiatives. Join us as we discuss the Covid-19 pandemic, its implications for higher ed, and her experiences as a leader in these especially trying times.
