Credit Where It’s Due: Groups work to remake college’s outdated credit transfer policies

While many college-level credentials are now available — providing students with more alternatives when pursuing a college degree — colleges awarding credit towards a degree is another issue.

This transition requires a push against the traditional models of receiving credit, which often includes colleges prioritizing their coursework over other institutions. If institutions want to promote systemic change, then college administrations need to rethink transfer policies.

Some organizations already work to improve college transfer processes so that more students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, receive credit for their efforts.
