Join us at SXSW EDU
On Tuesday, March 5, The Chronicle will be hosting two sessions.
The first is a discussion of “How Colleges Can Overcome Anti-Diversity Headwinds,” from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. CT, moderated by my colleague Alexander C. Kafka. He’ll be leading a conversation on what colleges can do to remain true to their ideals within the confines of the law. He’ll be joined by Paulette Granberry-Russell, president of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education; Mushtaq Grunja, executive director of the new Carnegie Classifications system and senior vice president at the American Council on Education; and Shaun Harper, a professor in the schools of education and business at the University of Southern California. Find this session in Room 8ABC in the Austin Convention Center.
After that, please stick around as we present The Chronicle’s ninth annual “Shark Tank: Edu Edition,” from 4 to 5 p.m. CT, where we’ll put through their paces some new companies and ideas trying to reshape the college experience. Our panel of experts brings a mix of viewpoints — a college president turned equity advocate, Catharine (Cappy) Bond Hill; an entrepreneur, Paul Freedman; and a journalist, me — to weigh in on potentially transformative approaches from new companies, nonprofits, and big dreamers. We’re not putting up any capital, but with some added input from the audience, this is always a thought-provoking and entertaining hour. We’ll also be in Room 8ABC at the Austin Convention Center.
Alex and I hope to see you there, or elsewhere, during the event.
