How will my institution access our site license?
Access to chronicle.com is available anytime, anywhere — whether on campus, at the office, or from home — thanks to the flexibility of a site license, which offers both IP authentication and domain access.
How can I access while on campus or at the office?
Go to chronicle.com to access through your institution’s IP address. You may be asked to authenticate through your library.
How do I access when I'm not on campus?
First, make sure you’ve established an account using your work email address (you@yourinstitution.edu). Once you’ve confirmed your account, simply go to chronicle.com and sign in to access The Chronicle through your institution’s domain-based site license.
How can I create an account if I don't already have one?
- Sign up for an account using your institutional or organizational email address. You will also have the option to sign up for The Chronicle’s free email newsletters and make use of our AI research assistant, Chron, after registering.
- Activate your account by confirming your email address in the confirmation email you’ll receive shortly thereafter.
Common Questions
Do I have enough users to justify a site license or will a group of individual subscriptions suit my needs?
Site license access is best suited for a group of over 100 users. For fewer than 100 users, a group subscription is best. Learn more about group subscription pricing or email us at groups@chronicle.com for a customized quote. For a site license quote, email sitelicense@chronicle.com.
Do I qualify to receive free Chronicle newsletters with a site license?
Yes! Once you’re signed into your account using your institutional email address, visit the newsletters link to sign-up for free email newsletters. The Daily Briefing is a premium newsletter that is only available with an individual subscription to The Chronicle.
How will I receive newsletters and access Chron through my institution's site license?
If your institution provides unlimited digital access through a site license, you will still need to establish a free chronicle.com account to receive newsletters and access our Chron AI research assistant. To register, click on the “Sign In” link in the upper right corner of our website and follow the prompt to sign up for an account. Use your institutional email address (you@yourinstitution.edu) to create your account and authenticate your site license access. We hope you enjoy these additional benefits!
How can I access Chronicle article archives on the website?
If you are looking for Chronicle insights dating back to 1967 or want to peruse our complete article archives beginning in 1989, you can use our site search and filter the search.
Our Chron AI research assistant can also aid in your search, particularly if you have specific questions that past Chronicle coverage can help answer. To ensure the veracity and value of its responses, Chron shares answers that are based solely on The Chronicle’s rigorous, fact-based journalism, rather than drawing from external sources that could introduce inaccuracies or misinformation. With each response, Chron provides links to relevant source articles written by Chronicle journalists and contributors.
To access articles that appeared in the print editions of The Chronicle, our online archives date back to 2015 and can be found here.
