Introduction
Wildfires, hurricanes, tsunamis, floods, heat domes, droughts, rising oceans, melting ice caps and glaciers, thinning water tables, shrinking biodiversity, and ubiquitous pollutants all chide us for our climate delinquency. A pandemic tests our medical and political systems. War, racism, poverty, coups, dictatorships, fanaticism, partisan polarization, crime, and refugee surges mock and batter our democratic and humanistic ideals. Our mental health declines. Expected lifetimes and learning shrink. And global tensions bring height- ened risk of nuclear catastrophe center stage once more.
