St. Paul — There was little talk at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night about the higher-education policies proposed by Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee.
But Fred Thompson, the former Tennessee senator and onetime contender for the nomination, took time during Tuesday evening’s program — which also included remarks by President Bush and by Sen. Joseph Lieberman, an Independent of Connecticut — to relate some choice moments from Mr. McCain’s college days. Profiles of Senator McCain have noted his propensity for violating U.S. Naval Academy rules during his time as a midshipman.
