Oxford, Ohio -- The Board of Trustees of Miami University of Ohio has voted unanimously to change the logo for its sports teams from “Redskins” to"RedHawks.”
The vote followed a decision by the Miami Indian Tribe of Oklahoma to withdraw its long-standing support for the old nickname. The name change was made despite a lawsuit filed in a county court to block it. The suit, by a group of 13 people who include Miami alumni and an American Indian, alleged that the board violated Ohio’s"Sunshine Law” by secretly discussing the change.
