Deaths
Barbara Uehling Charlton,former chancellor of the University of California at Santa Barbara, died on January 2. She was 87. Before her tenure as the fourth chancellor, from 1987 to 1994, Charlton served as the first female chancellor of the University of Missouri at Columbia, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Illinois State University, and provost at the University of Oklahoma at Norman.
Bruce Haywood,former president of Monmouth College, died on January 7. He was 94. Haywood served as president from 1980 until 1994. Before he became president, he was a professor, dean, and provost at Kenyon College.
