Deaths
Milly Cowles,former dean of the School of Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, died on August 7. She was 87. Cowles was the first woman to serve as dean of the school. She also worked as a professor at Rutgers University, the University of Georgia, and the University of South Carolina.

Tom Gound,former director of the postgraduate endodontics program in the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s College of Dentistry, died on July 20. He was 75. Gound joined the university in 1991 as an assistant professor and retired in 2012.
Stephen Leeper,former dean of the College of Dentistry at University of Nebraska Medical Center from 1988 to 2000, died on July 14. He was 83.
Bonnie Mathies,former dean of the Lake Campus at Wright State University, died on August 7. Before becoming dean in 2010, she served as associate dean of the campus and taught in the College of Education and Human Services.
Anne E. Monius,a professor of South Asian religions at Harvard Divinity School, died on August 3. She was 54. Monius served as the acting director of the university’s Center for the Study of World Religions from 2013 to 2014. She previously taught at the University of Virginia, in the department of religious studies.
