Jacksonville, Illinois -- A literary society at Illinois College has been banned from the campus for activities associated more with fraternities than with literati.
Gamma Nu was banned for four years after Sue Yowell, the college’s dean of students, captured the group’s members and alumni on videotape drinking beer and hazing pledges.
Ms. Yowell would only describe the hazing as “serious.”
She added: “Hazing and degrading others is not something we tolerate.”
Gamma Nu unsuccessfully appealed her decision.
