Medical School Goes on Probation

The Chicago Medical School, the largest physician-training institution in Illinois, was placed on probation this month by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, which accredits medical schools in the United States and Canada. Probation ordinarily lasts for two years.

According to the school, which is part of the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, the accreditor’s report calls on it to reduce its dependence on tuition, to continue improving its curriculum, and to strengthen its relationships with hospitals to better its clinical education. The school said a largely completed three-year strategic plan had already identified and corrected most of the problems.

Following its practice, the accreditor would not comment on its decision.
