Riot police broke up a demonstration Monday by about 300 students from Oman’s Institute of Health Sciences, after the students marched through the streets of Muscat, the capital, to protest an outbreak of food poisoning at the institution’s cafeteria, the Associated Press reported.
The students carried banners condemning the institute’s catering service, which was blamed for having sickened 189 students. The students fell ill Saturday evening, after they ate tainted chicken in the cafeteria, the A.P. reported. Five people were hospitalized and remained in critical condition Monday.
