New Haven, Conn. -- A protest erupted into a brawl at Yale University after Asian-American students accused a visiting speaker of racism.
The speaker, John O’Sullivan, edits the National Review, a conservative magazine. After his speech to the Yale Political Union, more than 30 students swarmed around him, demanding an apology for a cartoon on the March 24 cover. A fight broke out after protest signs were taken and people started shoving. One student was arrested.
“The stereotyping of Asian Americans with the slanty eyes, buck teeth, and yellow faces is very offensive,” said Clara Soh, a spokeswoman for Yale’s Asian American student group.
